Hello!  I'm Marilyn Grad, an authentic mixed media artist and acrylic painter based in Chicago, IL.  Twenty-five years ago I chose mixed media as my niche but I’m of the belief this niche chose me.  It’s a niche that has given me my aesthetic sensibility to create beautiful OOAK, Limited Edition artworks that are unique, colorful, uplifting, full of wisdom and positive energy. They do make a world of difference in someone's life and environment.

Cultural Inspiration and Influences

My inspiration comes from a longheld passion for Asian and Indian culture. Their aesthetics, spiritual beliefs, wisdom, iconic symbolism, philosophy, and rituals highlight a transformative approach to situations and environments from a higher perspective. This comes in handy when it comes to coping with life's unexpected transitions and upheavals. 

The influence these two cultures have on my life and my art is amazing. I'm a wiser  person and a more vulnerable artist.
Seeing or sharing the same space with an iconic statue of Buddha or Deity can alter a mood, change a thought, or potentially  dispel an old belief. With an added crystal, the energy gets even better.

Materials 

My art is small to medium in scale due to limited space in my studio.
The foundation I use to paint on includes cradled wood panels, corrugated cardboard panels, and assorted papers. Shizen paper is one my favorites for its texture. Every painting is coated with a non-toxic gloss varnish. 

The mixed media materials I use are well sought out and resourceful. They are meticulously and purposely selected and paired with crystals for the Buddha, Deity or Geisha paintings so they may tell their own story and have their own meaning or message to relay. Should you resonate with a particular piece, go with it.  No worries, on the back of each painting I include all the symbolic meanings for you!  
Abstract and Whim(sical) are freer and go with the flow. 

 My art looks great on walls, altars, homes, offices, bathrooms, yoga studios and galleries. They don't have to match your couch.
